DescPlayer Rostering Policy
For any bowling club the balance between matching aspirational club team growth targets against having adequate available player numbers remains a perennial and often weekly challenge.
The MBC currently fields five weekend pennant teams and whilst the goal to field six teams remains it is currently unviable.
This policy’s guidelines ensure a consistent and fair approach to player rostering & selection year on year along with transparency for our members.
Guidelines
· The Selection Committee will make best efforts to ensure all bowlers are selected for one game each week for either weekend or midweek teams (provided players are available for selection)
· Player rostering will apply to the lower division teams when there is a surplus of available players for weekend pennant
· Players not selected for weekend pennant may be offered to play for a neighboring club, a composite team, or in an intra-club practice match. This is optional and still considered to be viewed as a match rostered off
· It will not be considered a rostered match off if a player is not selected for weekend pennant due to rostering and then is subsequently called up and plays due to other bowlers being unavailable
· All bowlers will be encouraged to advise in advance of matches unavailable as this will greatly assist with roster scheduling
· Finals qualification may impact selection and rostering
· As per home and away matches, rostering will also exist for finals in the lower grades
· Priority for pre-season practice matches is to ensure all available bowlers are selected for match practice. Where no external opposition is scheduled, bowlers will be selected into teams/rinks for intra club matches.
· It is acknowledged that some practice match opponent clubs cannot provide a matching number of teams or be clear in the number of bowlers available prior to the scheduled match. On such occasions Selectors should endeavor to communicate any change with those bowlers/teams impacted
Communication
· It is the responsibility of those in official positions to ensure all members are treated fairly, respected, and valued regardless of status or bowling experience.
· Clear communication should be provided wherever it relates to player movement through rostering
· Team selection should accurately detail opposition, venue and any other relevant information
· Ensure appropriate acknowledgement is provided for players rostered out or playing for other clubs / intra club matches
With a view to continuous improvement, this policy will be reviewed by the Bowls Committee prior to each season’s commencement to ensure its relevance and that club best practice is achieved
